1- wall Handball Tournament 2019

10th May 2019

ALLIANZ Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain

1-Wall Handball Ballygawley 2019

Following the success of previous 1-Wall Handball Doubles tournaments, Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain embarked upon another series of games this year. This was the second event of the series.

As was the case last year, St. Ciaran’s College, Ballygawley, acted as a superb host venue.

St. Ciaran’s now has a multitude of 1-Wall handball courts. The continued growth, rapid expansion and popularity of 1-Wall handball in our schools is very evident and very welcomed.

In today’s Blitz at St. Ciaran’s College, 6 local primary schools entered: Ballygawley, Loughmacrory, Beragh, Drumduff, Greencastle and Carrickmore. After some terrific league games, the girls from Loughmacrory and Drumduff made it all the way to the final where, after a tremendous tussle, a formidable St. Teresa’s P.S. Loughmacrory team emerged victorious winning gold county medals. Hard luck to the Drumduff P.S. girls, but they earned second-placed county silver medals for their super efforts.

The boys’ doubles event saw Drumduff P.S. make another final, this time against St. Mary’s P.S. Ballygawley. In a very tight contest, both teams played some cracking stuff before Drumduff snatched the gold county medals whilst a spirited Ballygawley team earned county silvers.

The overall standard from the boys and girls was simply outstanding!

The events have seen terrific participation and skill from the primary schools involved. This excellent Allianz Cumann na mBunscol 1-Wall Handball Schools initiative at primary school level continues to gather pace with many more schools now participating in Handball games throughout Tyrone.

Many thanks to today’s host school with All-star Miss Neamh Woods and Eilise McCrory (P.E. technician) in St. Ciaran’s College, Ballygawley. We also thank the Yr 9 and Yr 11 students from the college who expertly refereed the games. Thanks, also, to St. Ciaran’s Principal, Mr. Paul Lavery, for so obligingly accommodating us. Master Barry Conroy did an excellent job on photography duties. A new career beckons, perhaps…

Mickey Quinn (CnmB) ensured everything ran efficiently on the day.

Finally, well done to our pupils and teachers for their continued support of our national games. Go raibh míle maith agaibh.
